Classics

So lately, I have been catching the TCM channel, watching some older movies. I haven't been able to find anything worth watching either in the video store or on tv. I have to say, out of the 5 or 6 that I have watched, the best one hands down has to be "Irma La Dulce". It stars Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon. Shirley plays a Paris street walker named Irma in the early sixties, and Jack plays a dual role as an upright citizen and a fictional man named Lord X, they both eventually fall for the Charismatic Irma. The film was written and directed by Billy Wilder. This is the second pairing of Jack and Shirley for Billy Wilder. They had previously worked together on the brilliant movie "The Apartment" also written and directed by Billy Wilder. Both films were wildly successful for both actors and the director. Each film earning an Oscar nomination for Shirley MacLaine (best actress) and Jack Lemmon for best actor (The Apartment). Although Jack had had success with Billy Wilder in "Some Like it Hot" albeit a fantastic film, I think that the chemistry with Jack and Shirley was the spark that made the films successful. If you get a chance take a look at these films and enjoy some real comedic genius.
