1 bag of dry split peas
1 bay leave
2 cups chopped ham or smoked pork chop or 2 ham hocks
1 cup shredded carrot
Fill large pot with 8 quarts of water add peas cook until peas start to soften.. add bay leave, stir occasionally, about 30 mins later add meat and carrot... continue cooking until all the peas are incorporated together and it is soup....
Serve with fresh cornbread or soft rolls.
